Hoops of Hope – At age 9 Austin Gutwein Begins Inspiring Thousands to Make a Difference

I am pretty good at coming up with excuses.  It’s easy to challenge others to serve, but when it gets personal I can rattle off several reasons why I shouldn’t.

I am an introvert.

I have a busy life with three young kids.

My gifts are more leadership and administrative.

A few years ago I heard about this kid named Austin Gutwein who was having a big impact through basketball.  Recently our Bluefish TV team spent time with Austin to hear more of his story.  It’s absolutely inspiring.

Here’s a kid who followed the model of a Good Samaritan … he saw a need, felt compassion, moved towards the need and took action.  Austin has now authored a book, traveled across the country on the Revolve tour and raised over $1,000,000 through Hopes of Hope.  And I don’t think he has his driver’s license yet!

    Hi Brian,
This is my first time on your blog. I followed a link here and I am so glad that I did, What a great story on Austin. My mother was diagnosed with cancer in 1993 and was given a year to live.
I quit my job that day and started learning all I could about diet, nutrition and how to treat this marvelous vessel that God has blessed us with. My Mother was my mentor and best friend. She taught me from my early years that “Can’t never could… but we Could Do Anything. You just had to Believe and never quit.” My other favorite saying is “Every person has the power to change the world…even you.” I was 5 years old the first time I remember hearing her say those words and it still holds true.

Three and a half years later she died. That was14 years ago this month. Since then I became a Christian based Health Coach and have volunteered my time working with thousands with cancer and other health challenges. I am a published author and poet. I write an inspirational blog. I have done health seminars at churches and on Christian Radio across the US. My goal is to get the world healthy one person and a time and touch as many lives as God will allow along the way.

I am blessed to have crossed paths with you. Your stories are truly inspiring. I would like to Backlink to your site and possibly feature yours and Austins stories on my blog. Let me know if that is possible. Blessings to you and your family from your newest subscriber.

    Sincerely,
    Jacki Smith
